The statement concerning the explanation of His saying: وَهُوَ اللَّهُ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَفِي الأَرْضِ يَعْلَمُ سِرَّكُمْ وَجَهْرَكُمْ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تَكْسِبُونَ (6:3) (And He is Allah in the heavens and on the earth; He knows your secret and your open declaration, and He knows what you earn. (3))
Abū Jaʿfar said: The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: Verily, the One to whom belongs the godhood that belongs to none other than Him, who has the right that you devote praise purely to Him for His favors upon you, O people — the One to whom you disbelievers ascribe others as equals — He is Allah, who is in the heavens and on the earth; He knows your secret and your open declaration, so that nothing remains hidden from Him. He says: your Lord, who has the right that you praise Him, and to whom you are obliged to devote worship purely, is this One who has this description — not the one who is unable to bring you harm nor benefit, and brings nothing to pass, and does not ward off from himself any evil done to him.

And as for His saying: "and He knows what you earn," He says: and He knows what you do and commit, and He records that against you in order to requite you for it upon your return to Him.
