The explanation of the words of the Exalted: وَلا تَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ نَسُوا اللَّهَ فَأَنْسَاهُمْ أَنْفُسَهُمْ أُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ (59:19) (And be not like those who forgot Allah, whereupon He made them forget themselves; they are the ones who are the corrupt.)
The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: and be not like those who have neglected the fulfillment of the right of Allah which He has made obligatory upon them ( فَأَنْسَاهُمْ أَنْفُسَهُمْ ) He says: whereupon Allah made them forget the shares of their own souls in good.
And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the interpreters of the Qurʾān have also expressed themselves.
* A mention of who said that:
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Mihrān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān: ( نَسُوا اللَّهَ فَأَنْسَاهُمْ أَنْفُسَهُمْ ) he said: they forgot the right of Allah, whereupon He made them forget themselves; he said: [that is] the share of their own souls.
And His words: ( أُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ ) He, whose praise is exalted, says: these who forgot Allah, they are the corrupt (fāsiqūn), that is to say: those who have departed from obedience to Allah into disobedience to Him.
