Tafseer of The Iron · Al-Hadid · 57:9
It is He who sends down upon His Servant [Muhammad] verses of clear evidence that He may bring you out from darknesses into the light. And indeed, Allah is to you Kind and Merciful.
Important: The Arabic source text is always authoritative. This translation is a study aid and has not been verified by scholars — do not use it as a basis for religious proof or for deriving rulings (ahkam). When in doubt, always consult the Arabic text and a qualified scholar.
The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: Allah is the One who sends down upon His servant Muḥammad آيَاتٍ بَيِّنَاتٍ ("clear signs"), that is to say, manifest signs, لِيُخْرِجَكُمْ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ ("that He may bring you out of the darknesses into the light"). The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: that He may bring you, O people, out of the darkness of unbelief (kufr) into the light of faith (īmān), and from misguidance to guidance.
In accordance with what we have said concerning this, the exegetes have spoken.
* Mention of those who said that:
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us, both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning his word: مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ ("out of the darknesses into the light"); he said: from misguidance to guidance.
And His word: وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ بِكُمْ لَرَؤُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ ("and indeed Allah is toward you full of compassion, merciful"). The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: and indeed Allah, through that which He has sent down upon His servant of clear signs for your guidance and for understanding of the straight path, is truly full of compassion and merciful toward you; out of His compassion and mercy toward you He has done that.
