Tabari

Tafseer of The Iron · Al-Hadid · 57:26

And We have already sent Noah and Abraham and placed in their descendants prophethood and scripture; and among them is he who is guided, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.

  1. Full Dutch translation of Tabari's text

The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: And indeed We have sent — O people — Noah to Our creation, and Abraham, His intimate friend, to them as a messenger. "And We placed prophethood and the Book in their progeny," and thus prophethood was among their progeny, and to them the Books were sent down: the Torah, the Gospel, the Zabūr (Psalms), the Furqān (the Criterion), and the remaining well-known Books. "And among them is one who is rightly guided," He says: thus among their progeny is one who is rightly guided to the truth and keen of insight. "And many of them," that is to say: of their progeny, "are morally corrupt (fāsiqūn)," that is to say: those who go astray, who have deviated from obedience to Allah toward disobedience to Him.
