They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin -

His statement: لا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلا تَأْثِيمًا ("They hear therein no idle talk nor sinful speech") — He says: they hear therein no false or useless words, nor any sinfulness; He says: therein is nothing that leads them into sin.
Some of the scholars of the language of the Arabs from Basra said concerning لا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلا تَأْثِيمًا ("They hear therein no idle talk nor sinful speech"): the sinfulness (taʾthīm) is not heard; it is only the idle talk that is heard. This is like saying: "I ate bread and milk," whereas milk is not eaten, but this was permissible because there was alongside it something that is indeed eaten.
