That you not transgress within the balance.

His statement: ( so that you do not act unjustly with the balance ) — the Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: so that you do not commit injustice and do not fall short in weighing.
As Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His statement: ( so that you do not act unjustly with the balance ): Be just, O son of Adam, just as you wish that one be just with you, and give full measure just as you wish that one give you full measure, for in justice lies the welfare of mankind.
And Ibn ʿAbbās used to say: O community of clients (mawālī), truly you have been charged with two matters by which those before you perished: this measure and this balance.
ʿAmr ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd related to us, he said: Marwān ibn Muʿāwiya related to us, on the authority of Mughīra, on the authority of Muslim, on the authority of Abū al-Mughīra, he said: I heard Ibn ʿAbbās say in the market of Medina: O community of clients (mawālī), truly you have been tested with two matters by which two communities among the communities perished: the measure and the balance.
He said: Marwān related to us, on the authority of Mughīra, he said: Ibn ʿAbbās saw a man weighing who gave overweight (too much), and he said: Keep the tongue (of the balance) straight, keep the tongue straight. Has Allah not said: And give full measure with justice and do not fall short in the balance (cf. 6:152 / 55:9)?
