The statement concerning the interpretation of His word, the Exalted: Op die Dag zal noch mens noch djinn naar zijn zonde gevraagd worden (55:39)
The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: on that Day the angels will not ask the criminals about their sins, for Allah has (recorded and) preserved them for them, and they will not ask one another about one another's sins, (nor will) their Lord (ask them).
And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the interpreters have spoken.
* Mention of who said that:
Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His word: ( Op die Dag zal noch mens noch djinn naar zijn zonde gevraagd worden ) — the Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: He does not ask them about their deeds, and they do not ask one another about one another. And this is like His word: En de misdadigers worden niet naar hun zonden gevraagd (28:78), and like His word to Muḥammad ﷺ: En jij wordt niet ondervraagd over de bewoners van het Hellevuur (2:119).
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word: ( zal noch mens noch djinn naar zijn zonde gevraagd worden ) — he said: Allah, mighty and exalted is He, has preserved their deeds for them.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both of them — on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His word: ( zal noch mens noch djinn naar zijn zonde gevraagd worden ) — he said: Mujāhid used to say: the angels do not ask the criminal; they recognize him by his marks.
Muḥammad ibn Bashshār related to us, and he said: Muḥammad ibn Marwān related to us, saying: Abū al-ʿAwwām related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: ( Op die Dag zal noch mens noch djinn naar zijn zonde gevraagd worden ) — he said: there was indeed an interrogation, and then a seal was placed upon the tongues of the people, so that their hands and their feet speak about what they used to do.
