The explanation of the statement of the Exalted: الرَّحْمَنُ "The Most Merciful" (55:1)
The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: The Most Merciful (al-Raḥmān) has, O people, through His mercy toward you, taught you the Qurʾān. Thereby He has favored you, when through it He gave you insight into that which contains the good pleasure of your Lord, and made known to you that which contains His displeasure, so that you might obey Him by following that which makes Him pleased with you, and by acting according to that which He has commanded you, and by shunning that which angers Him against you, so that thereby you may become worthy of His abundant reward and escape His painful punishment.
