Explanation of the word of the Exalted: كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ ("ʿĀd denied; how then was My punishment and My warnings?") (18)
He, exalted is His mention, says: ʿĀd too denied their prophet Hūd ﷺ in that with which he had come to them from Allah, just as the people of Nūḥ had denied, and just as you, O community of the Quraysh, have denied your prophet Muḥammad ﷺ and all His messengers. فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ ("how then was My punishment and My warnings?"); he says: look then, O community of the disbelievers of the Quraysh against Allah, how My punishment of them was, and My chastisement of them for their disbelief in Allah and their denial of His messenger Hūd, and My warning, through what I did with them, to everyone who treads their paths and who was in the same state as that in which they were, namely persistence in corruption and error.
