And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

And His word: Hoe waren dan Mijn bestraffing en Mijn waarschuwingen? (54:16). The Exalted, Whose praise is exalted, says: how then was My punishment (ʿadhāb) of these who disbelieved in their Lord among the people of Nūḥ and who denied His messenger Nūḥ, when they persisted in their error and straying; and how was My warning through what I inflicted upon them of the punishment that I caused to descend upon them on account of their disbelief in their Lord and their denial of His messenger Nūḥ, Allah's blessings be upon him? And it is a warning for whoever disbelieves among his people, the Quraysh, and an admonition from Him to them, that there will descend upon them — should they persist in their error — the like of what descended upon the people of Nūḥ of punishment.
And His word en Mijn waarschuwingen means: and My warning, and it is a verbal noun (maṣdar).
