The explanation of His exalted word: wa-annahu khalaqa al-zawjayni al-dhakara wa-l-unthā (45) ("and that He created the two mates, the male and the female").

And His word wa-annahu khalaqa al-zawjayni al-dhakara wa-l-unthā * min nuṭfatin idhā tumnā ("and that He created the two mates, the male and the female, from a drop of sperm when it is emitted") — the Exalted, whose praise is proclaimed, says: and that He brought into existence the origination of the two mates, the male and the female, and made them a pair; for the male is the mate (zawj) of the female, and the female is a mate for him, so that the two of them are a pair, each of them being a mate for the other.
