The explanation of His exalted word: wa-anna saʿyahu sawfa yurā (40) ("and that his striving will soon be seen").
His word, whose praise is exalted, wa-anna saʿyahu sawfa yurā ("and that his striving will soon be seen") — the Exalted, whose praise is proclaimed, says: and that the deed of everyone, of every doer, will be seen on the Day of Resurrection by whoever draws near to the Resurrection, with the recompense for which he is rewarded, whether it be good or bad. One is not punished for the sin of another than its perpetrator, and no one other than the doer is rewarded for his good deed. What is meant by this is: the one who turned away from his Islam because of his companion's promise to him that he would take the punishment upon himself on his behalf — that this promise does not benefit him and will avail him nothing on the Day of Resurrection, for every doer is called to account on the basis of his own deed.
