Tafseer of The Star · An-Najm · 53:37
And [of] Abraham, who fulfilled [his obligations] -

And His statement: And Ibrāhīm, who was faithful (53:37). He says: and Ibrāhīm, who faithfully fulfilled that to which the One who sent him had sent him.
Then the people of interpretation differed concerning the meaning of "who was faithful." Some said: his faithfulness consisted of fulfilling what his Lord had charged him with, namely the delivery of His messages, and that is that no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another (53:38).
* Mention of those who said that:
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, he said: Mihrān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of ʿAṭāʾ, on the authority of ʿIkrima, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning And Ibrāhīm, who was faithful, he said: before Ibrāhīm, one used to seize the kinsman for the kinsman, until Ibrāhīm came, and he delivered that no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another — no one is held accountable for the sin of another.
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, he said: Mihrān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of Jābir, on the authority of Mujāhid, on the authority of ʿIkrima, concerning And Ibrāhīm, who was faithful, they said: he delivered these verses that no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another.
Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His statement And Ibrāhīm, who was faithful, he said: he faithfully fulfilled obedience to Allah, and delivered the messages of his Lord to His creatures.
And ʿIkrima used to say: he faithfully fulfilled these ten verses that no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another ... until he reached and that upon Him rests the second creation (53:47).
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, he said: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His statement And Ibrāhīm, who was faithful: he faithfully fulfilled obedience to Allah and His messages to His creatures.
Yaḥyā ibn Ṭalḥa al-Yarbūʿī related to me, he said: Abū Bukayr related to us, on the authority of Abī Ḥaṣīn, on the authority of Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, concerning His statement And Ibrāhīm, who was faithful, he said: he delivered that with which he was charged.
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, he said: Mihrān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, concerning And Ibrāhīm, who was faithful, he said: he delivered.
Yūnus related to me, he said: Ibn Wahb informed us, he said: Ibn Zayd said, concerning His statement And Ibrāhīm, who was faithful, he said: faithful was — he delivered the messages of his Lord, he delivered that with which he was sent, just as a man delivers that with which he is sent.
