And We found not within them other than a [single] house of Muslims.

The explanation of the words of the Exalted: فَمَا وَجَدْنَا فِيهَا غَيْرَ بَيْتٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ (51:36) (And We found therein but one household of the Muslims.)
The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: And We found in that town, from which We brought out those in it who were believers, nothing but one household of the Muslims, and that is the household of Lūṭ.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His words فَمَا وَجَدْنَا فِيهَا غَيْرَ بَيْتٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ — he said: Had there been more than that, Allah would have saved them, so that they might know that faith is preserved with Allah and is not a lost cause for those who possess it.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning فَمَا وَجَدْنَا فِيهَا غَيْرَ بَيْتٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ — he said: These are the people of Lūṭ; they found therein no one except Lūṭ.
Ibn ʿAwf related to me, saying: al-Muʿtamir related to us, saying: Ṣafwān related to us, saying: Abū al-Muthannā and Muslim Abū al-Ḥayl al-Ashjaʿī related to us: Allah said فَمَا وَجَدْنَا فِيهَا غَيْرَ بَيْتٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ — [namely] Lūṭ and his two daughters. He said: Then the punishment descended upon them.
