لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ فِيهَا وَلَدَيْنَا مَزِيدٌۭ

They will have whatever they wish therein, and with Us is more.

    And His statement ( لَهُمْ مَا يَشَاءُونَ فِيهَا ) ("For them therein is whatever they wish"), He says: for these God-fearing ones there is, in this garden (janna) which has been brought near to them, everything they wish of all that their souls desire and that delights their eyes.

    And His statement ( وَلَدَيْنَا مَزِيدٌ ) ("and with Us there is more"), He says: and with Us there is for them, on top of what We have already given them of this honor — which He, exalted is His praise, has described — yet an addition with which He will give them more. And it has been said: that addition (al-mazīd) is the beholding of Allah, exalted is His praise.

    Aḥmad ibn Suhayl al-Wāsiṭī related to me, saying: Qurra ibn ʿĪsā related to us, saying: al-Naḍr ibn ʿArabī related to us, on the authority of his grandfather, on the authority of Anas: "When Allah, mighty and exalted, has settled the people of Paradise in Paradise and the people of the Fire in the Fire, He descends to a wide meadow of Paradise, and He stretches between Himself and His creatures veils of pearl and veils of light. Then the pulpits of light, the couches of light, and the seats of light are set up. Thereupon a man is granted access to Allah, mighty and exalted, with before him, like mountains of light, the rumbling of the tasbīḥ (glorification) of the angels which is audible together with him, and the beating of their wings. The people of Paradise crane their necks and it is asked: 'Who is this who has been granted access to Allah?' It is answered: 'This is the one who was formed with His hand, who was taught the names, for whom the angels were commanded to prostrate and they prostrated, and for whom Paradise was permitted: Ādam, peace be upon him; he has been granted access to Allah, the Exalted.' He said: Then another man is granted access, with before him, like mountains of light, the rumbling of the tasbīḥ of the angels which is audible together with him, and the beating of their wings. The people of Paradise crane their necks and it is asked: 'Who is this who has been granted access to Allah?' It is answered: 'This is the one whom Allah took as an intimate friend (khalīl) and for whom He made the Fire cool and safe: Ibrāhīm; he has been granted access to Allah.' He said: Then another man is granted access to Allah, with before him, like mountains of light, the rumbling of the tasbīḥ of the angels which is audible together with him, and the beating of their wings. The people of Paradise crane their necks and it is asked: 'Who is this who has been granted access to Allah?' It is answered: 'This is the one whom Allah chose with His message and whom He brought near as a confidential interlocutor, and to whom He spoke [in speech]: Mūsā, peace be upon him; he has been granted access to Allah.' He said: Then another man is granted access, accompanied by the entire procession of all the prophets who were before him, with before him like mountains [of light]; the rumbling of the tasbīḥ of the angels which is audible together with him, and the beating of their wings. The people of Paradise crane their necks and it is asked: 'Who is this who has been granted access to Allah?' It is answered: 'This is the first intercessor and the first whose intercession is accepted, the one with the greatest throng who draws near, the master of the children of Ādam; the first for whom the earth splits open around his two locks of hair, and the bearer of the banner of praise: Aḥmad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace; he has been granted access to Allah.' He said: Then the prophets seat themselves upon the pulpits of light, [the truthful ones (ṣiddīqūn) upon the couches of light, and the martyrs (shuhadāʾ) upon the seats of light], and the rest of the people seat themselves upon hills of white, fragrant musk. Then the Lord, the Exalted, calls out to them from behind the veils: 'Welcome to My servants, My visitors, My neighbors and My guests. O My angels, rise up toward My servants and feed them.' He said: Then there was brought to them of the flesh of birds, like camels, without feathers and without bones, and they ate. He said: Then the Lord called out to them from behind the veil: 'Welcome to My servants, My visitors, My neighbors and My guests; they have eaten, give them to drink.' He said: Then youths came to them, like hidden pearls, with pitchers of gold and silver, with various delicious drinks — the last draught as sweet as the first — from which one gets no headache and from which one does not become drunk. Then the Lord called out to them from behind the veils: 'Welcome to My servants, My visitors, My neighbors and My guests; they have eaten and drunk, refresh them with fruits.' He said: Then there was brought to them, on platters inlaid with ruby and coral, of the dates which Allah has mentioned, whiter than milk and sweeter and more pleasant than honey. He said: And they ate. Then the Lord called out to them from behind the veils: 'Welcome to My servants, My visitors, My neighbors and My guests; they have eaten, drunk, and refreshed themselves; clothe them.' He said: Then the fruits of Paradise opened for them with garments polished with the light of the Most Merciful, and they were clothed with them. He said: Then the Lord, blessed and exalted, called out to them from behind the veils: 'Welcome to My servants, My visitors, My neighbors and My guests; they have eaten, drunk, refreshed themselves and been clothed; prepare for them a fragrance.' He said: Then there arose over them a wind called "the Stirring One" (al-muthīra), with pitchers of [white], fragrant musk, and it blew over their faces, without dust or haze. He said: Then the Lord, mighty and exalted, called out to them from behind the veils: 'Welcome to My servants, My visitors, My neighbors and My guests; they have eaten, drunk, refreshed themselves, been clothed and perfumed; by My might, I shall reveal Myself to them until they behold Me.' He said: And that is the utmost of the gift and the favor of the addition (al-mazīd). He said: Then the Lord, mighty and exalted, revealed Himself to them, and then said: 'Peace be upon you, My servants; behold Me, for I am pleased with you.' He said: Then the palaces of Paradise and its trees called out to one another: 'Glory be to You,' four times, and the people fell down in prostration. He said: Then the Lord, blessed and exalted, called out to them: 'My servants, raise your heads, for this is not an abode of toil, nor an abode of weariness; it is only an abode of recompense and reward. By My might and My majesty, I created it only for your sake, and there was no hour in which you remembered Me in the abode of the world, but that I remembered you above My throne.'"

    ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn Abjar related to us, saying: ʿUmar ibn Yūnus al-Yamāmī related to us, saying: Jahḍam ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī al-Ṭufayl related to us, saying: Abū Ṭayba related to me, on the authority of Muʿāwiya al-ʿAbsī, on the authority of ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmayr, on the authority of Anas ibn Mālik, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Jibrīl, peace be upon him, came to me with in his hand a white mirror in which there was a black dot. I said: 'O Jibrīl, what is this?' He said: 'This is Friday (al-jumuʿa).' I said: 'And what is this black dot in it?' He said: 'It is the Hour; it will come upon Friday, and it is the master of the days with us, and we call it in the Hereafter the Day of the Addition (yawm al-mazīd).' I said: 'And why do you call it the Day of the Addition?' He said: 'Indeed, your Lord, blessed and exalted, has taken in Paradise a wide valley of white musk. When it is Friday, He descends from the ʿilliyyūn onto His throne, and then the throne is surrounded by pulpits of light. Then the prophets come until they take their places upon them, and after that the people of Paradise come until they take their places upon the hills. Then their Lord, mighty and exalted, reveals Himself to them until they behold His face, while He says: I am the One who has fulfilled My promise to you and perfected My favor upon you; this is the place of My honoring, so ask Me. Then they ask Him for good pleasure, and He says: My good pleasure has caused you to enter My abode and to attain My honoring, so ask Me. Then they keep asking Him until their longing is exhausted, and then there is opened for them what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and what has not arisen in any human heart, until the moment when the people of the Friday (gathering) disperse; until He ascends to His throne, and with Him ascend the truthful ones (ṣiddīqūn) and the martyrs (shuhadāʾ), and the people of Paradise return to their abodes of white pearl, without joint and without crack therein, or of red ruby, or of green topaz, of which are their upper chambers and their doors. They then have need of nothing more than Friday, so that thereby they may increase in honoring and so that they may increase in beholding His face; and that is why it is called the Day of the Addition (yawm al-mazīd).'"

    Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Jarīr related to us, on the authority of Layth ibn Abī Sulaym, on the authority of ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmayr, on the authority of Anas ibn Mālik, on the authority of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, like the narration of ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn.

    Al-Rabīʿ ibn Sulaymān related to us, saying: Asad ibn Mūsā related to us, saying: Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm related to us, on the authority of Ṣāliḥ ibn Ḥayyān, on the authority of Abū Burayda, on the authority of Anas ibn Mālik, on the authority of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in a similar manner.

    Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm related to me, saying: Ibn ʿUlayya related to us, saying: Ibn ʿAwn informed us, on the authority of Muḥammad, who said: he related to us, or he said: "They said: Indeed, the lowest of the people of Paradise in rank is the one to whom it is said: wish; and his companions help him to remember, and he wishes, and his companions help him to remember, and it is said to him: that is for you, and the like of it together with it. He said: Ibn ʿUmar said: that is for you and tenfold the like of it, and with Allah there is an addition (mazīd)."

    Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith informed us, that Darrāj Abū al-Samḥ told him, on the authority of Abū al-Haytham, on the authority of Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, that he said, on the authority of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: "Indeed, the man in Paradise reclines for seventy years before he turns over; then his wife comes to him and strikes upon his two shoulders, and he sees his face in her cheek, clearer than the mirror; and indeed, the meanest pearl upon her illuminates what lies between the east and the west. She greets him, and he returns the greeting and asks her: who are you? She says: I am of the Addition (al-mazīd). And indeed, upon her are seventy garments, of which the meanest is like the anemone of the Ṭūbā-tree; his gaze penetrates through them until he sees the marrow of her shinbone behind them. And indeed, upon her are crowns, and indeed, the meanest pearl in them illuminates what lies between the east and the west."

    وقوله ( لَهُمْ مَا يَشَاءُونَ فِيهَا ) يقول: لهؤلاء المتقين ما يريدون في هذه الجنة التي أزلفت لهم من كل ما تشتهيه نفوسهم, وتلذّه عيونهم. وقوله ( وَلَدَيْنَا مَزِيدٌ ) يقول: وعندنا لهم على ما أعطيناهم من هذه الكرامة التي وصف جلّ ثناؤه صفتها مزيد يزيدهم إياه. وقيل: إن ذلك المزيد: النظر إلي الله جلّ ئناؤه. * ذكر من قال ذلك: حدثني أحمد بن سهيل الواسطي, قال: ثنا قُرةُ بن عيسى, قال: ثنا النضر بن عربيّ عن جده, عن أنس, " إن الله عزّ وجلّ إذا أسكن أهل الجنة الجنة, وأهل النار النار, هبط إلى مَرْج من الجنة أفيح, فمدّ بينه وبين خلقه حُجُبا من لؤلؤ, وحُجُبا من نور ثم وُضعت منابر النور وسُرُرُ النور وكراسيّ النور, ثم أُذِن لرجل على الله عزّ وجلّ بين يديه أمثال الجبال من النور يُسْمَع دَويّ تسبيح الملائكة معه, وصفْقُ أجنحتهم فمدّ أهل الجنة أعناقهم, فقيل: من هذا الذي قد أُذن له على الله؟ فقيل: هذا المجعول بيده, والمُعَلَّم الأسماء, والذي أُمرت الملائكة فسجدت له, والذي له أبيحت الجنة, آدم عليه السلام, قد أُذِن له على الله تعالى; قال: ثم يؤذَن لرجل آخر بين يديه أمثال الجبال من النور, يُسْمع دَوِيّ تسبيح الملائكة معه, وصفْقُ أجنحتهم; فمدّ أهل الجنة أعناقهم, فقيل: من هذا الذي قد أُذِن له على الله؟ فقيل: هذا الذي اتخذه الله خليلا وجعل عليه النار بَرْدا وسلاما, إبراهيم قد أُذن له على الله. قال: ثم أُذِن لرجل آخر على الله, بين يديه أمثال الجبال من النور يُسْمع دوي تسبيح الملائكة معه, وصَفْق أجنحتهم; فمدّ أهل الجنة أعناقهم, فقيل: من هذا الذي قد أُذن له على الله؟ فقيل: هذا الذي اصطفاه الله برسالته (12) وقرّبه نجيا, وكلَّمه [كلاما] (13) موسى عليه السلام, قد أُذِن له على الله. قال: ثم يُؤذن لرجل آخر معه مثلُ جميع مواكب النبيين قبله, بين يديه أمثال الجبال, [من النور] (14) يسمع دَوِي تسبيح الملائكة معه, وصَفْق أجنحتهم; فمدّ أهل الجنة أعناقهم, فقيل: من هذا الذي قد أُذِن له على الله؟ فقيل: هذا أوّل شافع, وأوّل مشفَّع, وأكثر الناس واردة, وسيد ولد آدم; وأوّل من تنشقّ عن ذُؤابتيه الأرض, وصاحب لواء الحمد, أحمد صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم , قد أُذِن له على الله. قال: فجلس النبيون على منابر النور, [والصدّيقون على سُرُر النور; والشهداء على كراسيّ النور] (15) وجلس سائر الناس على كُثْبان المسك الأذفر الأبيض, ثم ناداهم الربّ تعالى من وراء الحُجب: مَرْحَبًا بعبادي وزوّاري وجيراني ووفدي. يا ملائكتي, انهضوا إلى عبادي, فأطعموهم. قال: فقرّبت إليهم من لحوم طير, كأنها البُخت لا ريش لها ولا عظم, فأكلوا, قال: ثم ناداهم الربّ من وراء الحجاب: مرحبا بعبادي وزوّاري وجيراني ووفدي, أكلوا اسقوهم. قال: فنهض إليهم غلمان كأنهم اللؤلؤ المكنون بأباريق الذهب والفضة بأشربة مختلفة لذيذة, لذة آخرها كلذّة أوّلها, لا يُصَدّعون عنها ولا يُنـزفون; ثم ناداهم الربّ من وراء الحُجب: مرحبا بعبادي وزوّاري وجيراني ووفدي, أكلوا وشربوا, فَكِّهوهم. قال: فيقرب إليهم على أطباق مكلَّلة بالياقوت والمرجان; ومن الرُّطَب الذي سَمَّى الله, أشدّ بياضا من اللبن, وأطيب عذوبة من العسل. قال: فأكلوا ثم ناداهم الربّ من وراء الحجب: مرحبا بعبادي وزوّاري وجيراني ووفدي, أكلوا وشربوا, وفُكِّهوا; اكسوهم; قال ففتحت لهم ثمار الجنة بحلل مصقولة بنور الرحمن فألبسوها. قال: ثم ناداهم الربّ تبارك وتعالى من وراء الحجب: مرحبا بعبادي وزواري وجيراني ووفدي; أكلوا; وشربوا; وفُكِّهوا; وكُسُوا طَيِّبوهم. قال: فهاجت عليهم ريح يقال لها المُثيرة, بأباريق المسك [الأبيض] (16) الأذفر, فنفحت على وجوههم من غير غُبار ولا قَتام. قال: ثم ناداهم الربّ عز وجل من وراء الحُجب: مرحبا بعبادي وزوّاري وجيراني ووفدي, أكلوا وشربوا وفكهوا, وكسوا وطُيِّبوا, وعزتي لأتجلينّ لهم حتى ينظروا إليّ قال: فذلك انتهاء العطاء وفضل المزيد; قال: فتجلى لهم الربّ عزّ وجلّ, ثم قال: السلام عليكم عبادي, انظروا إليّ فقد رضيت عنكم. قال: فتداعت قصور الجنة وشجرها, سبحانك أربع مرّات, وخرّ القوم سجدا; قال: فناداهم الربّ تبارك وتعالى: عبادي ارفعوا رءوسكم فإنها ليست بدار عمل, ولا دار نَصَب إنما هي دار جزاء وثواب, وعزّتي وجلالي ما خلقتها إلا من أجلكم, وما من ساعة ذكرتموني فيها في دار الدنيا, إلا ذكرتكم فوق عرشي". حدثنا عليّ بن الحسين بن أبجر, قال: ثنا عمر بن يونس اليمامي, قال: ثنا جهضم بن عبد الله بن أبي الطفيل قال: ثني أبو طيبة, عن معاوية العبسيّ, عن عثمان بن عمير, عن أنس بن مالك, قال: قال رسول الله صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم : " أتانِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ فِي كَفِّه مِرْآةٌ بَيْضَاءُ, فِيها نُكْتَةٌ سَوْدَاءُ فَقُلْتُ: يا جِبْرِيلُ ما هَذِهِ؟ قالَ: هَذِهِ الجُمُعَةُ, قُلْتُ: فَمَا هَذِهِ النُّكْتَةُ السَّوْدَاءُ فِيها؟ قالَ: هِيَ السَّاعَةُ تَقُومُ يَوْمَ الجُمُعَةِ وَهُوَ سَيِّدُ الأيَّامِ عِنْدَنا, وَنَحْنُ نَدْعُوهُ فِي الآخِرَةِ يَوْمَ الْمَزِيدِ; قُلْتٌ: وَلِمَ تَدْعُونَ يَوْمَ المَزِيدِ قالَ: إنَّ رَبَّكَ تَبارَكَ وَتَعالى اتَّخَذَ فِي الجَنَّةِ وَاديا أفْيَحَ مِنْ مِسْكٍ أبْيَضَ, فإذَا كانَ يَوْمُ الجُمُعَةِ نـزلَ مِنْ عِلِّيِّين على كُرْسِيِّه, ثُمَّ حَفَّ الكُرْسِيَّ بِمنَابِرَ مِنْ نُورٍ, ثُمَّ جَاءَ النَّبِيُّونَ حتى يَجْلِسُوا عَلَيْها ثُمَّ تَجِيءُ أهلُ الجَنَّةِ حتى يَجْلِسُوا على الكُثُبِ فَيَتَجَلَّى لَهمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ حتى يَنْظُرُوا إلى وَجْهِهِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: أنا الَّذِي صَدَقْتُكُم عِدَتِي, وأتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُم نِعْمَتِي, فَهَذَا مَحلُّ كَرَامَتِي, فَسَلُونِي, فَيَسألُونهُ الرِّضَا, فَيَقُولُ: رِضَايَ أحَلَّكُمْ دَارِي وأنالَكُم كَرَامَتِي, فَسَلُونِي, فَيَسأَلُونهُ حتى تَنْتَهِيَ رَغْبتهُمْ, فَيُفْتَحُ لَهُمْ عِنْدَ ذلكَ ما لا عين رأَتْ, وَلا أُذُنٌ سَمعَتْ, وَلا خَطَر على قَلْبِ بَشَرٍ, إلى مِقْدَارٍ مُنْصَرَف النَّاسِ مِنَ الجُمُعَة حتى يَصْعَدَ على كُرْسِيِّه فَيَصْعَدُ مَعَهُ الصدّيقُونَ والشُّهَدَاءُ, وَتَرْجِعُ أهْلُ الجَنَّةِ إلى غُرَفِهِمْ دُرَّةً بَيْضَاءَ, لا نَظْمَ فِيها ولا فَصْمَ, أوْ ياقُوتَةً حَمْرَاءَ, أوْ زَبْرَجَدَةً خَضْرَاءَ, مِنْها غُرَفُها وأبْوَابُها, فَلَيْسُوا إلى شَيْءٍ أحْوَجَ مِنْهُمْ إلى يَوْمِ الجُمُعَةِ, لِيَزْدَادُوا مِنْهُ كَرَامَةً, وَلِيَزْدَادُوا نَظَرًا إلى وَجْهِهِ, وَلِذَلكَ دُعِيَ يَوْمَ المَزِيدِ". حدثنا ابن حُمَيد, قال: ثنا جرير, عن ليث بن أبي سليم, عن عثمان بن عمير, عن أنس بن مالك, عن النبيّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم , نحو حديث عليّ بن الحسين. حدثنا الربيع بن سليمان, قال: ثنا أسد بن موسى, قال: ثنا يعقوب بن إبراهيم, عن صالح بن حيان, عن أبي بُرَيدة, عن أنس بن مالك, عن النبيّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم بنحوه. حدثني يعقوب بن إبراهيم, قال: ثنا ابن علية, قال: أخبرنا ابن عون, عن محمد, قال: حدثنا, أو قال: " قالوا: إن أدنى أهل الجنة منـزلة, الذي يقال له تمنّ, ويذكِّره أصحابه فيتمنى, ويذكره أصحابه فيقال له ذلك ومثله معه. قال: قال ابن عمر: ذلك لك وعشرة أمثاله, وعند الله مزيد ". حدثني يونس, قال: أخبرنا ابن وهب, قال: أخبرنا عمرو بن الحارث أن درّاجا أبا السَّمْح, حدثه عن أبي الهَيثم, عن أبي سعيد الخُدريّ, أنه قال عن رسول الله صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم : " إنَّ الرَّجُلَ فِي الجَنَّةِ لَيَتَّكِئَ سَبْعِينَ سَنَةً قَبْل أنْ يَتَحَوَّلَ ثُمَّ تأْتِيهِ امْرأتُهُ فَتَضْربُ على مَنْكِبَيْهِ, فَيَنْطُرُ وَجْهَهُ فِي خَدّها أصْفَى مِنْ المِرْآةِ, وإنَّ أدْنَى لُؤْلُؤْةٍ عَلَيْها لَتُضِيءُ ما بَينَ المَشْرِقِ وَالمَغْرِبِ, فَتُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْهِ, فَيرُدُّ السَّلامَ, وَيَسألُها مَنْ أَنْتِ؟ فَتَقُولُ: أنا مِنَ المَزِيدِ وَإنَّهُ لَيَكُونُ عَلَيْها سَبْعُونَ ثَوْبا أدْناها مِثْلُ النُّعْمَانِ مِنْ طُوبى فَيَنْفُذُها بَصَرُهُ حتى يَرَى مُخَّ ساقِها مِنْ وَرَاءِ ذلكَ, وَإنَّ عَلَيْها مِن التِّيجانِ, وَإنَّ أدْنَى لُؤْلُؤْةٍ فِيها لَتُضِيءُ ما بَينَ المَشْرِقِ وَالمَغْرِبِ". ------------------------ الهوامش: (12) كذا في الدر المنثور للسيوطي ( 6 : 108 ) نقلا عن المؤلف . وفي الأصل برسالاته ، وقد سقط من الأصل بعض عبارات ضرورية وضعناها بين هذين المعقوفين .
