The people of Noah denied before them, and the companions of the well and Thamud

The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَأَصْحَابُ الرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ (Before them the people of Nūḥ, the dwellers of ar-Rass, and Thamūd already gave the lie) (12).
The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: before these — the polytheists (mushrikīn) of his people who gave the lie to Muḥammad ﷺ — there already gave the lie ( كذَّبتْ ) the people of Nūḥ and the dwellers of ar-Rass ( قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَأَصْحَابُ الرَّسِّ ). We have already previously made mention of the affair of the dwellers of ar-Rass, and that they were a people who cast their prophet down into a well (rassū).
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Mihrān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of Abū Bakr, on the authority of ʿIkrima, accordingly.
It was related to me on the authority of al-Ḥusayn, saying: I heard Abū Muʿādh say: ʿUbayd informed us, saying: I heard aḍ-Ḍaḥḥāk say concerning His saying ( أَصْحَابُ الرَّسِّ ) (the dwellers of ar-Rass): and ar-Rass is a well in which the companion of Yāsīn was killed.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both of them — on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His saying ( أَصْحَابُ الرَّسِّ ) (the dwellers of ar-Rass), he said: a well.
