The explanation of His word, exalted is His mention: وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَكَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا أُولَئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْجَحِيمِ (5:10) (And those who disbelieved and denied Our signs, they are the inhabitants of the Hellfire (al-Jaḥīm).)
Abū Jaʿfar said: By His word, praised is His commendation: "and those who disbelieved (kafarū)" He means: those who rejected the oneness of Allah and broke His covenant and the pledges they had made with Him = "and denied Our signs (āyāt)" — He says: and those who denied the proofs of Allah and His arguments which indicate His oneness, that the messengers and others have brought = "they are the inhabitants of the Hellfire (al-Jaḥīm)" — He says: these, whose description is this, are the people of "al-Jaḥīm," that is to say: the people of the Fire (al-nār) who abide therein eternally and never come out of it.
