The explanation of His statement, the Exalted: وَإِذَا حُشِرَ النَّاسُ كَانُوا لَهُمْ أَعْدَاءً وَكَانُوا بِعِبَادَتِهِمْ كَافِرِينَ ("And when mankind is gathered, they will be enemies to them and will reject their worship") (6)
The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: and when the people are gathered on the Day of Resurrection for the place of the reckoning, then these gods whom they call upon in the worldly life will be their enemies, because they will disavow them. وَكَانُوا بِعِبَادَتِهِمْ كَافِرِينَ ("and will reject their worship") — the Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: and their gods whom they worship in the worldly life will deny their worship (kāfirīn), for on the Day of Resurrection they will say: we did not command them to worship us, and we were not aware of their worship of us. We disavow them before You, O our Lord.
