Tafseer of The Dunes · Al-Ahqaf · 46:18
Those are the ones upon whom the word has come into effect, [who will be] among nations which had passed on before them of jinn and men. Indeed, they [all] were losers.

The explanation of His statement, the Exalted: These are the ones against whom the word has been proven true, among communities that had already passed away before them of the jinn and mankind. Indeed, they were among the losers (18)
The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: these, whose attribute is this description, for whom the punishment (ʿadhāb) of Allah has become obligatory and upon whom His punishment and His wrath have descended, are among those upon whom Allah's punishment has descended in the same manner as that which has descended upon these, namely the communities that passed away before them of the jinn and mankind, who denied the messengers of Allah and turned away arrogantly from the command of their Lord.
And His statement Indeed, they were among the losers — the Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: indeed, they were among those who were deceived through their selling of guidance for misguidance and of felicity for punishment.
Muḥammad ibn Bashshār related to us, saying: Muʿādh ibn Hishām related to us, saying: my father related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, who said: the jinn do not die. Qatāda said: then I said These are the ones against whom the word has been proven true, among communities that had already passed away... the verse.
