هَٰذَا بَصَٰٓئِرُ لِلنَّاسِ وَهُدًۭى وَرَحْمَةٌۭ لِّقَوْمٍۢ يُوقِنُونَ

This [Qur'an] is enlightenment for mankind and guidance and mercy for a people who are certain [in faith].

    The discourse on the explanation of His statement, the Exalted: These are insights for mankind, and a guidance and a mercy for a people who have certainty (20)

    The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: ( This ) Book which We have sent down to you, O Muḥammad, ( are insights for mankind ), by which they distinguish the truth from falsehood, and by which they know the way of right guidance. And al-baṣāʾir is the plural of baṣīra (insight).

    And in accordance with what we have said about this, Ibn Zayd used to say.

    * Mention of who said that:

    Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said, concerning His statement ( These are insights for mankind, and a guidance and a mercy ): he said: the Qurʾān. He said: all of this is only in the heart. He said: and hearing and seeing are in the heart. And he recited for indeed, it is not the eyes that are blind, but blind are the hearts which are in the breasts . And it is not the seeing of this world, nor the hearing of it.

    And His statement ( and a guidance ) says: and a right guidance ( and a mercy for a people who have certainty ) about the truthful correctness of this Qurʾān, and that it is a sending down from Allah, the Almighty, the All-Wise. And the Exalted, whose praise is exalted, has singled out the people of certainty by mentioning that it is for them insights, guidance, and mercy, because they are the ones who benefited from it, in contrast to whoever denied it among the people of disbelief (kufr); for to him it was blindness and to him it was sorrow.

    القول في تأويل قوله تعالى : هَذَا بَصَائِرُ لِلنَّاسِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِقَوْمٍ يُوقِنُونَ (20) يقول تعالى ذكره ( هَذَا ) الكتاب الذي أنـزلناه إليك يا محمد ( بَصَائِرُ لِلنَّاسِ ) يُبْصِرُون به الحقّ من الباطل, ويعرفون به سبيل الرشاد, والبصائر: جمع بصيرة. وبنحو الذي قلنا في ذلك كان ابن زيد يقول. * ذكر من قال ذلك: حدثني يونس, قال: أخبرنا ابن وهب, قال: قال ابن زيد, في قوله ( هَذَا بَصَائِرُ لِلنَّاسِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ ) قال: القرآن. قال: هذا كله إنما هو في القلب. قال: والسمع والبصر في القلب. وقرأ فَإِنَّهَا لا تَعْمَى الأَبْصَارُ وَلَكِنْ تَعْمَى الْقُلُوبُ الَّتِي فِي الصُّدُورِ وليس ببصر الدنيا ولا بسمعها. وقوله: ( وَهُدًى ) يقول: ورشاد ( وَرَحْمَةٌ لِقَوْمٍ يُوقِنُونَ ) بحقيقة صحة هذا القرآن, وأنه تنـزيل من الله العزيز الحكيم. وخصّ جلّ ثناؤه الموقنين بأنه لهم بصائر وهدى ورحمة, لأنهم الذين انتفعوا به دون من كذب به من أهل الكفر, فكان عليه عمى وله حزنا.
