And His words: "The Day on which no mawlā (protector) shall avail another mawlā in anything" (44:41). He says: a cousin shall not ward off anything from a cousin, nor a friend from his friend, of the punishment of Allah that has descended upon them from Allah. "And they shall not be helped" — He says: and they shall not help one another, so as to seek shelter against the one who struck them with a punishment, as they used to do in the life of this world.
As Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His words: "The Day on which no protector shall avail another protector in anything" ... the verses: the bonds are severed on that Day, O son of Adam, and the people are reduced to their deeds; whoever finds good on that Day is thereby blessed to the utmost of what falls to him, and whoever finds evil on that Day is thereby wretched to the utmost of what falls to him.
