And His words: "So travel by night with My servants" (44:23). In this statement something has been omitted, which was rendered superfluous by the indication of what is mentioned; and that is: his Lord answered him by saying to him: travel then — now that the matter is so — with My servants; and they are the Children of Israel. The meaning of this statement is in reality: travel away with My servants who held you to be truthful and believed in you and followed you, and not with those among them who denied you and refused to accept the sincere counsel that you brought them. And those who on that day fit this description were the Children of Israel. And He said: "So travel by night with My servants" — because the meaning thereof is: journey with them by night, before the morning.
And His words: "indeed, you will be pursued" — He says: indeed, Pharaoh and his people of the Copts will pursue you when you depart from their land and their territory, upon your tracks.
