And His words: "And if you do not believe me, then keep away from me" (44:21). The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says, reporting the saying of His prophet Mūsā, peace be upon him, to Pharaoh and his people: and if you, O people, do not hold me to be truthful in that with which I have come to you from my Lord, then keep away from me — he says: then let me go my way, without my being stoned with the tongue nor with the hand.
As Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, he said: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda: "And if you do not believe me, then keep away from me" — that is to say: then let me go my way.
