His statement: ( O My servants, today there is no fear upon you, nor shall you grieve ). In this statement something has been omitted, because the indication of what has been mentioned was sufficient. The meaning of the statement is: the bosom friends will on that Day be enemies of one another, except the God-fearing (al-muttaqūn), for to them it is said: O My servants, today there is no fear upon you regarding My punishment, for I have made you secure from it through My good pleasure with you, nor shall you grieve over the leaving behind of the worldly life, for that which you have now arrived at is better for you than what you have left behind of it.

It is mentioned that mankind will be addressed with this call on the Day of Resurrection, so that even the one who is not among the people thereof has hope for it, until he hears His statement: They who believed in Our signs and were Muslims , whereupon he then gives up hope of it.

Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda, who said: al-Muʿtamir related to us, on the authority of his father, who said: I have heard that mankind, when they are resurrected, there is none among them but he is in fear, and then a herald calls out: O servants of Allāh, today there is no fear upon you, nor shall you grieve, whereupon all mankind have hope for it. He said: Then there follows: They who believed in Our signs and were Muslims . He said: Thereupon mankind give up hope of it, except the Muslims.
