And His words: "And indeed, it is an honour for you and for your people" (43:44). The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: and indeed, this Qurʾān which has been revealed to you, O Muḥammad, which We have commanded you to hold fast to, is an honour for you and for your people from the Quraysh. "And soon you will be questioned" — He says: and soon your Lord will question you and them about what you have done with it, and whether you have acted in accordance with what your Lord commanded you therein, and whether you have abstained from what He forbade you therein.

And in accordance with what we have said concerning the explanation of this, the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) have spoken.

    * Mention of who said that:

ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to us, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His words: "And indeed, it is an honour for you and for your people" — he says: indeed, the Qurʾān is an honour for you.

ʿAmr ibn Mālik related to me, saying: Sufyān related to us, on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His words: "And indeed, it is an honour for you and for your people" — he said: the man will be asked: who are you? And he will say: of the Arabs. And it will be said: of which Arabs? And he will say: of the Quraysh.

Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: "And indeed, it is an honour for you and for your people" — and that is this Qurʾān.

Muḥammad related to us, saying: Aḥmad related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī: "And indeed, it is an honour for you and for your people" — he said: an honour for you and for your people, that is to say the Qurʾān.

Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said, concerning His words: "And indeed, it is an honour for you and for your people" — he said: were not the prophethood and the Qurʾān that was sent down to His Prophet ﷺ an honour for him and for his people?
