But they have attributed to Him from His servants a portion. Indeed, man is clearly ungrateful.

The explanation of His, the Exalted, word: وَجَعَلُوا لَهُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ جُزْءًا إِنَّ الإِنْسَانَ لَكَفُورٌ مُبِينٌ ("And they have assigned to Him a portion from among His servants. Truly, man is a manifest ingrate") (15).
He, exalted is His mention, says: and these polytheists (mushrikīn) have assigned to Allah a share from among His creation, and that is their statement concerning the angels: they are the daughters of Allah.
And in the sense of what we have said about this, the scholars of exegesis have spoken.

Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both of them — on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning the word of Allah, mighty and exalted is He: وَجَعَلُوا لَهُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ جُزْءًا ("and they have assigned to Him a portion from among His servants"); he said: a child, and daughters from among the angels.
Muḥammad related to us, saying: Aḥmad related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī: وَجَعَلُوا لَهُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ جُزْءًا ("and they have assigned to Him a portion from among His servants"); he said: the daughters.
And others said: by "portion" (al-juzʾ) is meant here: an equal (al-ʿadl).

Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: وَجَعَلُوا لَهُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ جُزْءًا ("and they have assigned to Him a portion from among His servants"): that is to say, an equal.
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word: وَجَعَلُوا لَهُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ جُزْءًا ("and they have assigned to Him a portion from among His servants"): that is to say, an equal.
