And His statement: ( And We saved those who believed ) He says: and We saved those who believed from the punishment that had seized them on account of their disbelief in Allah — those who acknowledged Allah alone and held His messengers to be truthful.

He says: and they feared Allah, lest there descend upon them, as retribution for their disbelief, were they to be disbelievers, that which had descended upon those among them who perished; therefore they believed out of God-fearingness toward Allah and out of fear of His threat, and they held His messengers to be truthful, and they cast away from themselves the gods and the idols.
