* The statement concerning the explanation of His saying, may He be exalted: En behoed hen voor de slechte dingen; en wie U op die Dag voor de slechte dingen behoedt, hem hebt U waarlijk barmhartig bejegend; en dat is de geweldige triomf (9).
The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, means by His saying — while He reports about what His angels say: and guard them — turn away from them the evil consequences of their evil deeds which they had committed before their repentance and their returning (to You) —, they say: do not hold that against them, so that You would punish them for it. en wie U op die Dag voor de slechte dingen behoedt, hem hebt U waarlijk barmhartig bejegend says: and whomever You guard from the evil consequences of his evil deeds on the Day of Resurrection, him You have indeed treated mercifully and have saved from Your punishment (ʿadhāb). en dat is de geweldige triomf, for whoever has been saved from the Fire (al-nār) and admitted into Paradise has indeed triumphed, and that is undoubtedly the mighty triumph.
And in accordance with what we have said concerning the meaning of "the evil things" (al-sayyiʾāt), the people of interpretation have spoken.
* Mention of who said that:
