The explanation of the statement of the Exalted: الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِالْكِتَابِ وَبِمَا أَرْسَلْنَا بِهِ رُسُلَنَا فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ (40:70) (Those who have rejected the Book and that with which We sent Our messengers; they will soon come to know) (40:70).
The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: Have you not seen those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah, how they are turned away — those who have rejected the Book of Allah, and that is this Qurʾān. And "those who" (the second) is in the genitive position, referred back to "those who" (the first) by way of an adjectival qualification. ( وَبِمَا أَرْسَلْنَا بِهِ رُسُلَنَا ) (and that with which We sent Our messengers). He says: and they likewise rejected, in addition to their rejection of the Book of Allah, that with which We sent Our messengers, namely the pure devotion of worship to Allah alone, and the declaring oneself free of that which is worshipped besides Him of gods and partners, and the acknowledgement of the resurrection after death for the reward and the punishment.
