And We had certainly given Moses guidance, and We caused the Children of Israel to inherit the Scripture

The explanation of the statement of the Exalted: وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْهُدَى وَأَوْرَثْنَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ الْكِتَابَ (And indeed, We gave Mūsā the guidance, and We made the Children of Isrāʾīl inherit the Book) (40:53).
The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى (And indeed, We gave Mūsā) the exposition of the truth with which We sent him, just as We gave it to Muḥammad; but Firʿawn and his people denied it, just as the Quraysh denied Muḥammad. وَأَوْرَثْنَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ الْكِتَابَ (and We made the Children of Isrāʾīl inherit the Book) means: and We made the Children of Isrāʾīl inherit the Tawrāt, and We taught it to them.
