Explanation of the saying of the Exalted: wa-qāla alladhī āmana yā qawmi innī akhāfu ʿalaykum mithla yawmi al-aḥzāb (40:30) — "And he who believed said: O my people, I fear for you something like the day of the confederates."
The Exalted, whose praise is sublime, says: and the believer from the household of Pharaoh said to Pharaoh and his counselors: O my people, I fear for you — should you kill Moses — on account of your killing him something like the day of the confederates (al-aḥzāb), who united into factions against the messengers of Allah: Noah, Hūd and Ṣāliḥ, whereupon Allah destroyed them on account of their insolence against Him. So likewise will He destroy you just as He destroyed them.
