Tafseer of The Women · An-Nisaa · 4:70

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَضْلُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ عَلِيمًۭا

That is the bounty from Allah, and sufficient is Allah as Knower.

    And concerning His statement: "That is the bounty of Allah (dhālika l-faḍlu mina llāh)," He says: The fact that whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger is together with those upon whom Allah has bestowed favors — the prophets, the truthful ones, the martyrs, and the righteous — = "the bounty is from Allah," He says: That is Allah's gift to them and His favor upon them, not because they had merited it through anything preceding that had gone before them.

    If someone were to say: Is it not the case that through obedience they attained what they attained of His bounty?

    He is answered: They obeyed Him in this world only through His favor with which He favored them, by which He guided them to His obedience. So all of that is a favor from Him, exalted is His mention.

    And His statement: "And Allah suffices as All-Knowing (wa-kafā bi-llāhi ʿalīman)," He says: And the servants have in Allah, who created them, sufficiency = as "All-Knowing" regarding the obedience of the obedient among them and the disobedience of the disobedient. For nothing of that remains hidden from Him, but rather He records it for them and preserves it, until He recompenses them all: recompensing the doers of good among them with good, and the doers of evil among them with evil, and He pardons whom He wills of the people of the oneness of Allah (tawḥīd).

    وأما قوله: " ذلك الفضل من الله "، فإنه يقول: كون من أطاع الله والرسول مع الذين أنعم الله عليهم من النبيين والصديقين والشهداء والصالحين =" الفضل من الله "، يقول: ذلك عطاء الله إياهم وفضله عليهم، لا باستيجابهم ذلك لسابقة سبقت لهم. (29) * * * فإن قال قائل: أوليس بالطاعة وصلوا إلى ما وصلوا إليه من فضله؟ قيل له: إنهم لم يطيعوه في الدنيا إلا بفضله الذي تفضل به عليهم، فهداهم به لطاعته، فكل ذلك فضل منه تعالى ذكره. * * * وقوله: " وكفى بالله عليما "، يقول: وحسب العباد بالله الذي خلقهم =" عليما " بطاعة المطيع منهم ومعصية العاصي، فإنه لا يخفى عليه شيء من ذلك، ولكنه يحصيه عليهم ويحفظه، حتى يجازي جميعهم، جزاء المحسنين منهم بالإحسان، والمسيئين منهم بالإساءة، (30) ويعفو عمن شاء من أهل التوحيد. -------------------- الهوامش : (29) انظر تفسير"الفضل" فيما سلف 2: 344 / 5: 164 ، 571 / 6: 518 / 7: 299 ، 414 / 8: 268.
