The explanation of His word: بَلْ رَفَعَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا (Rather, Allah raised him up to Himself, and Allah is Almighty, All-Wise) (4:158).
Abū Jaʿfar said: As for His word — exalted be His praise —: "Rather, Allah raised him up to Himself," He thereby means: rather, Allah raised the Messiah up to Himself. He says: they did not kill him and did not crucify him, but Allah raised him up to Himself and purified him from those who had disbelieved.

As for His word: "and Allah is Almighty, All-Wise," He means: and Allah never ceases to take vengeance upon His enemies, as His vengeance upon those whom the thunderbolt seized on account of their wrongdoing, and as His cursing of those whose history He recounted with His word: فَبِمَا نَقْضِهِمْ مِيثَاقَهُمْ وَكُفْرِهِمْ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ (Because of their breaking of their covenant and their disbelief in the signs of Allah) = "All-Wise," He says: possessor of wisdom in His governance and His disposal of His creatures in His decree. He says: so beware, O you who ask Muḥammad to send down upon you a book from heaven, lest My chastisement descend upon you, as it descended upon your predecessors who committed your deed, in their denial of My messengers and their fabrications against My friends. And indeed:
10793 — Abū Kurayb related to us, saying: Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq ibn Abī Sāra al-Ruʾāsī related to us, on the authority of al-Aʿmash, on the authority of al-Minhāl, on the authority of Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His word: "and Allah is Almighty, All-Wise," he said: the meaning of it is: that He is thus.
