Tafseer of The Women · An-Nisaa · 4:124
And whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, while being a believer - those will enter Paradise and will not be wronged, [even as much as] the speck on a date seed.

The explanation of His word: وَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِنَ الصَّالِحَاتِ مِنْ ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنْثَى وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَأُولَئِكَ يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ وَلا يُظْلَمُونَ نَقِيرًا (4:124) (And whoever performs righteous deeds, whether male or female, while being a believer — those are the ones who will enter Paradise (janna), and they will not be wronged even by the amount of a naqīr (the little dimple on a date-stone).)
Abū Jaʿfar said: He, exalted be His praise, means thereby those to whom He has said: لَيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلا أَمَانِيِّ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ ("it does not depend on your wishes, nor on the wishes of the People of the Book"). Allah says to them: indeed, only he shall enter Paradise (janna) and dwell therein in bliss in the Hereafter, who performs righteous deeds — from among you men and women, and from among My male and female slaves (ʿabd/ama) — while he believes (muʾmin) in Me and in My Messenger Muḥammad ﷺ, and affirms My oneness and the prophethood of Muḥammad ﷺ, as well as that which he has brought from Me. Not you, O polytheists (mushrikīn) who ascribe partners to Me and reject My Messenger! Do not, therefore, cherish the hope that you, while you are disbelievers (kāfir), would take the place of the believers in Me, or that you would enter their dwelling-places on the Day of Resurrection while you reject My Messenger, as:
10535 — Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Aḥmad ibn al-Mufaḍḍal related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī, concerning His word: "And whoever performs righteous deeds, whether male or female, while being a believer" — he said: He has refused to accept faith except with the righteous deed, and He has refused to accept Islam except with the doing of good (iḥsān).

As for His word: "and they will not be wronged even by the amount of a naqīr" — He means thereby: Allah does no wrong to these, who perform the righteous deeds, with regard to the reward for their work, not even by the amount of the dimple (nuqra) that is on the back of the date-stone, in the slightest degree. How then would He wrong what is greater and more than that? He, exalted be His praise, thereby informs His servants that He withholds from them nothing of the reward for their deeds, neither little nor much, but that He repays them that in full as He has promised them.

And in accordance with what we have said concerning the meaning of "al-naqīr," the interpreters of the Scripture have spoken.

10536 — Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Jarīr related to us, on the authority of Manṣūr, on the authority of Mujāhid: "and they will not be wronged even by the amount of a naqīr" — he said: the naqīr is that which is on the back of the date-stone.
10537 — Ibn Bashshār related to us, saying: Abū ʿĀmir related to us, saying: Qurra related to us, on the authority of ʿAṭiyya, he said: the naqīr is that which is in the middle of the date-stone.

If someone were to say to us: What is the import of inserting "min" in His word "and whoever performs of the righteous deeds (wa-man yaʿmal min al-ṣāliḥāt)," when He did not say: "and whoever performs the righteous deeds (wa-man yaʿmal al-ṣāliḥāt)"?
Then it is answered: Its insertion has two imports:
The first of them: that Allah knew that His believing servants would not be capable of performing all the righteous deeds, and therefore He has made His promise binding for whoever performs of those deeds that which he is able to do, and He has not withheld from him His favor on account of that which his strength was unable to perform.
And the second of them: that He, exalted be His mention, has made His promise binding for whoever avoids the major sins and fulfills the obligations, even though he falls short in a part of what is incumbent upon him — out of favor from Him toward His believing servants, since favor most befits Him and forgiveness toward the people of faith in Him is the most fitting.

Now some people of the Arabic philology have claimed that it ("min") is here inserted in the sense of omission (i.e. redundantly), and they interpret it thus: "and whoever performs the righteous deeds, whether male or female, while being a believer."
That, however, is in my judgment not admissible, for its insertion serves a meaning, and so it is not admissible that its meaning should be omission.
