Tafseer of The Women · An-Nisaa · 4:105
Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth so you may judge between the people by that which Allah has shown you. And do not be for the deceitful an advocate.

Discussion of the explanation of His statement: إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ بِالْحَقِّ لِتَحْكُمَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ بِمَا أَرَاكَ اللَّهُ وَلا تَكُنْ لِلْخَائِنِينَ خَصِيمًا (105) (Indeed, We have sent down to you the Book with the truth, so that you may judge among the people by that which Allah has shown you; and do not be a defender of the treacherous. (4:105))
Abū Jaʿfar said: He — exalted be His praise — means by His statement "Indeed, We have sent down to you the Book with the truth, so that you may judge among the people by that which Allah has shown you": "Indeed, We have sent down to you," O Muḥammad (the Prophet ﷺ), "the Book," that is: the Qurʾān, "so that you may judge among the people," that is: so that you may rule among the people and decide between them, "by that which Allah has shown you," that is: by that which Allah has sent down to you from His Book. "And do not be a defender of the treacherous," He says: and do not be a defender (khaṣīm) of one who has betrayed a Muslim or a covenanted person (muʿāhad) in his person or his property, pleading on his behalf and defending him against the one who demands his right in that which he betrayed him.
