Tafseer of The Groups · Az-Zumar · 39:47

The explanation of His statement, exalted is His mention:
The Exalted, praised is His mention, says: And even if these who associated partners with Allah possessed on the Day of Resurrection — and they are those who have wronged themselves — all that is on the earth in this worldly life of its riches and adornments, and the like of it along with it doubled, and that were accepted from them as a ransom for themselves, they would ransom themselves with all of that as a ransom for themselves, in order to escape the evil punishment (ʿadhāb) of Allah, with which He punishes them on that Day. And there will appear to them from Allah. He says: And on that Day there will become visible to them, of Allah's decree and His punishment which He has prepared for them, that which they had not previously supposed He had prepared for them.
