The explanation of His — exalted is He — statement: وَلَقَدْ ضَرَبْنَا لِلنَّاسِ فِي هَذَا الْقُرْآنِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَثَلٍ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ ("And indeed, We have set forth for the people in this Qurʾān every kind of parable, that they might take heed") (27)
The Exalted — exalted is His mention — says: and indeed, We have set forth for these polytheists (mushrikīn) who ascribe partners to Allah parables of every kind, from the examples of the generations of the bygone communities, as a deterrent and a warning from Us to them. لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ ("that they might take heed"). He says: that they might take heed and restrain themselves from the disbelief in Allah in which they persist.
