The statement concerning the explanation of His saying, the Exalted: Qāla fa-al-ḥaqqu wa-al-ḥaqqa aqūl ("He said: then the truth, and the truth I speak") (84).
The Qurʾān-reciters differed over the reading of His saying Qāla fa-al-ḥaqqu wa-al-ḥaqqa aqūl. Some of the inhabitants of the Ḥijāz and the majority of the Kūfans read it with the nominative (rafʿ) of the first "al-ḥaqq" and the accusative (naṣb) of the second. As for the nominative of the first "al-ḥaqq", when it is read thus, there are two possibilities: the first is the nominative by an implied subject, that is to say "Allah is the truth" (Allāhu al-ḥaqq), or "I am the truth and I speak the truth."
