The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنْظَرِينَ (80) (He said: Verily, you are among those to whom respite has been granted. (38:80))
The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: Allah said to Iblīs: verily, you are among those to whom I have granted respite until the Day of the appointed time; and that is the time which Allah has set as the term for his destruction. I have already expounded that time earlier, with mention of the disagreement of the people of knowledge concerning it. And he said: ( فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لأغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ ) (By Your might, I will surely seduce them all): The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: Iblīs said: by Your might, that is to say: by Your power, Your dominion, and Your overpowering of all Your creatures who are beneath You ( لأغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ ) (I will surely seduce them all), He says: I will lead the children of Adam all together astray ( إِلا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ الْمُخْلَصِينَ ) (except Your sincerely devoted servants among them), He says: except those among them whom You have chosen for Your worship and whom You have protected against my seduction, so that You have given me no way over him; for I am unable to mislead him nor to seduce him.
