The explanation of the statement of the Exalted: إِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلائِكَةِ إِنِّي خَالِقٌ بَشَرًا مِنْ طِينٍ (When your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a human being from clay") (71).
And His word ( إِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ ) (When your Lord said) connects to His word إِذْ يَخْتَصِمُونَ (when they disputed). The explanation of the statement is: I had no knowledge of the Highest Assembly when they disputed, at the moment when your Lord, O Muḥammad, spoke to ( لِلْمَلائِكَةِ إِنِّي خَالِقٌ بَشَرًا مِنْ طِينٍ ) (the angels [saying]: "I am going to create a human being from clay"). By this is meant the creation of Ādam.
