[So he was told], "Strike [the ground] with your foot; this is a [spring for] a cool bath and drink."

Bishr ibn Ādam related to me, saying: Abū Qutayba related to us, saying: Abū Hilāl related to us, saying: I heard al-Ḥasan concerning the saying of Allah: ( Stamp with your foot ) — so he stamped with his foot, whereupon a spring gushed forth from which he washed himself; then he walked about forty cubits further and stamped again with his foot, whereupon a spring gushed forth from which he drank. That, then, is His saying: ( Stamp with your foot; this is a cool water for washing and a drink ).
By His saying ( a water for washing [mughtasal] ) He means: the water with which one washes oneself. One says concerning it: "This is a water for washing (mughtasal)," and "washing-agent (ghasūl)" for that with which one washes oneself with water. And His saying ( and a drink ) means: and one drinks from it. The place where one washes oneself is likewise called a mughtasal.
