What is [wrong] with you that you do not speak?"

He then saw that they did not speak, and so he said to them: مَا لَكُمْ لا تَنْطِقُونَ ("What is the matter with you that you do not speak?"), mocking them. And thus it has been transmitted that he dealt with them, and we have already mentioned the report concerning that earlier.
And Qatāda said concerning that what Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: قَالَ أَلا تَأْكُلُونَ ("He said: Do you not eat?"), he desires of them that they speak: مَا لَكُمْ لا تَنْطِقُونَ ("What is the matter with you that you do not speak?").
