But not the chosen servants of Allah.

And His statement إِلا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ ("except the sincerely devoted servants of Allah") means — He, the Exalted, says: see then how the end of those who were warned was, except the servants of Allah whom We made pure for faith in Allah and His messengers. He excepted the servants of Allah from those who were warned, because the meaning of the words is: see then how We destroyed those who were warned, except the believing servants of Allah. Therefore it was fitting to except them from them.
And in accordance with what we have said about His statement إِلا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ ("except the sincerely devoted servants of Allah"), the exegetes of the Qurʾān have spoken.

Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Aḥmad ibn al-Mufaḍḍal related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī, concerning His statement إِلا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ ("except the sincerely devoted servants of Allah"), he said: those whom Allah has chosen for Himself.
