And We had already sent among them warners.

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِمْ مُنْذِرِينَ ("And indeed, We sent among them warners") means: and indeed We sent, among the communities that passed away before your community, and before your people who give you the lie, warners who warned them against Our might because of their disbelief in Us. But they gave them the lie and did not accept their counsels, and therefore We caused Our might and Our punishment to descend upon them.
