That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'"
Important: The Arabic source text is always authoritative. This translation is a study aid and has not been verified by scholars — do not use it as a basis for religious proof or for deriving rulings (ahkam). When in doubt, always consult the Arabic text and a qualified scholar.
This is indicated by the saying of Allah: aʾidhā mitnā wa-kunnā turāban wa-ʿiẓāman aʾinnā la-madīnūna ("when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we then truly be judged?"). And this is the correct reading according to us, deviation from which is not permitted, on account of the consensus of the authoritative reciters concerning it.
And His saying aʾinnā la-madīnūna: He says: shall we truly be called to account and requited, after we have become bones and our flesh has become dust?
And in agreement with what we have said concerning this, the people of interpretation (tafsīr) have spoken.
* Mention of who said that:
Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His saying aʾinnā la-madīnūna: he says: shall we truly be requited for the deed; as you requite so you are requited.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His saying aʾinnā la-madīnūna: shall we truly be called to account.
Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Aḥmad ibn al-Mufaḍḍal related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī, aʾinnā la-madīnūna: called to account.
