So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment].

The discourse on the explanation of His statement, the Exalted: فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَا إِنَّا لَذَائِقُونَ ("So the word of our Lord has been proved true against us; we shall indeed taste") (37:31).
He — exalted be His mention — says: so the word of our Lord has been proved true against us, so the punishment of our Lord has become obligatory upon us; verily, we shall taste the punishment (ʿadhāb), we and you, on account of what we brought forth in the worldly life of our sins and our disobedience. This is a report from Allah concerning the statement of the jinn and mankind.
As Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَا ("So the word of our Lord has been proved true against us")... the rest of the verse. He said: this is the statement of the jinn.
