His statement وَسَلامٌ عَلَى الْمُرْسَلِينَ ("And peace be upon the messengers") means: and an assurance of safety from Allah for the messengers whom He sent to their communities — those whom He has mentioned in this surah, and others besides them — against the terror of the day of the greatest punishment, and against every other calamity that might befall them from Allah, blessed and exalted is He.

Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda سَلامٌ عَلَى الْمُرْسَلِينَ ("peace be upon the messengers"): the Messenger of Allah — may Allah bless him and grant him peace — said: "When you pronounce the greeting of peace upon me, then pronounce the greeting of peace also upon the messengers, for I am but one messenger among the messengers."
