And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see.

And His word ( And observe them, for they shall observe ): And grant them respite, for they shall soon see what punishment (ʿadhāb) from Us will befall them.
And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the exegetes (ahl al-taʾwīl) also spoke.
* Mention of those who said that:
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda ( And observe them, for they shall observe ): at the moment when observing will no longer avail them.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning His word ( And observe them, for they shall observe ). He says: Grant them respite, for they shall soon observe what awaits them after this day. He said: He says: They shall observe on the Day of Resurrection what they neglected of the command of Allah, and their disbelief in Allah, His Messenger, and His Book. He said: "fa-abṣir-hum" (and observe them) and "abṣir" (observe) are one and the same.
