His statement ( أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَانٌ مُبِينٌ ) [Or do you have a clear authority?] means: do you have a proof whose validity becomes clear to whoever hears it, concerning the truth of what you claim?
As Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda ( أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَانٌ مُبِينٌ ): that is, a clear excuse.
Muḥammad related to us, he said: Aḥmad related to us, he said: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī, concerning His statement ( سُلْطَانٌ مُبِينٌ ), he said: a proof.
