Tafseer of Those drawn up in Ranks · As-Saaffaat · 37:140
[Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship.

إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُونِ ("When he fled to the laden ship") means: when he fled to the "fulk," that is, the ship, "al-mashḥūn": that is, the fully laden one, loaded with cargo and heavily freighted.
As Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda إِلَى الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُونِ : we used to relate that it is the heavily laden ship.
Muḥammad related to us, saying: Aḥmad related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī concerning His statement الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُونِ , he said: the heavily laden one. And His statement فَسَاهَمَ means: he cast lots (qāraʿa).
And in accordance with what we have said concerning that, the exegetes spoke.

ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to us, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His statement فَسَاهَمَ , he says: he cast lots (aqraʿa).
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda.
